§ Mr. Peter BottomleyFollowing reorganisation, the vehicle inspectorate is now based on a region and district structure. The district staff in post figures can be amalgamated to give figures which equate broadly to traffic areas, but in some cases the boundaries do not correspond.
The difference in boundaries coupled with changes in the professional and technology grading structure and in the spread of duties undertaken by the vehicle examiners in the inspectorate mean the 1986 figures are not directly comparable with statistics produced for previous years.
