asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) when his Department will deal with (a) the application for single payment allowance by Georgina McKoy, made to 6 Camberwell New Road, S.E.5 about 3 November, (b) the application for severe disablement allowance and supplementary benefit by Julian Wall made

It has been estimated that around 2 million people in the United Kingdom suffer from asthma. Further information is provided in the following tables.

An article in The Lancet of 9 August 1986 discussed the evidence that the death rate from asthma had been rising in the last decade, after falling in the late 1960s. The reason was not known. The article pointed to the apparent paradox that while under-treatment was suggested as one cause, this coincided with rising sales of all forms of treatment for asthma. The problem is not confined to this country.

Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 27 October, (c) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 20 May in respect of Mr. S. E. Brown of flat 8, 258 Coldharbour Lane, London S.W.9 and (d) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office about late payments to David Kress of 37 Adelaide Walk, Moorlands estate, Brixton, London S.W.9;

(3) when the following letters and applications will be dealt with: (a) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 27 October about Mrs. Kate Leigh of 11 Canterbury Crescent, London S.W.9; (b) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 19 September about Ms. M. McKenna of flat 1, 25 Eastlake road, London S.E.5; (c) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 11 March about Mr. G. S. Ravatte of 39 Swinford gardens, Barrington road, London S.W.9 in respect of assistance to return to Mauritius; and (d) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office about Jean F. Slatter of 7 Leicester house, Loughborough estate, Loughborough road, London S.W.9;

(4) when the following letters and applications will be dealt with: (a) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 17 September about Miss Sonia Stewart of 2 Enfield house, Stockwell gardens, London S.W.9; (b) a letter sent by the hon. Member for Norwood to the Oval office on 30 October about Mrs. J. E. Turner of 3 Secker house, Loughborough estate, Brixton, London S.W.9; and (c) an application for single payment for bedding made by Edna G. Victor in August to the Oval office.

Mr. Raynsford

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many single payments in respect of additional heating expenditure incurred during last winter's exceptionally cold weather were made (a) in Great Britain, (b) in the Greater London area, (c) in the constituency of Fulham and (d) in the constituency of Hammersmith; and what was the total cost and average value of such payments.

Full returns have not yet been received on the number of payments made in Great Britain and the Greater London area. Information is however available in respect of the local offices covering the parliamentary constituencies of Fulham and Hammersmith, as follows:
