§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will set out in tabular form the road works delaying motorists on motorways which he required to be removed before the 1986 August bank holiday weekend; and what arrangements he has made for the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe table shows the major roadworks which were removed over the 1986 August bank holiday weekend. In addition, the Department's agent authorities were urged to limit as far as practicable closures for smaller items of work. For Christmas and New Year, agent authorities will again be urged to keep to the minimum practicable level closures for either major or minor works. There are few major works at this time of the year because of the weather conditions.
