HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c502W
Mr. Coombs

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the relative performance of the United Kingdom on road safety compared with that of other European countries.

Mr. Moore

The United Kingdom has the lowest road death rate in the European Community. In 1984, the rate was 10.2 per 100,000 population—30 per cent. lower than the Community average. Rates for Norway and Sweden are lower still.
