§ Mr. WaldegraveThe control of coastal water quality is for the water authorities (in England and Wales) and for the river purification authorities (in Scotland). They discharge this function having regard to local circumstances, and to Government policy and the U rifted Kingdom's international obligations. It is not necessary to 525W have a formal national plan, although the performances of the individual water authorities and river purification authorities are reviewed regularly by the Government.
