§ Mr. Flanneryasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will insist that all cutlery imported into the United Kingdom is clearly marked with the country of origin;
(2) if he will take steps to ensure that manufactured goods imported into the United Kingdom are clearly marked with the country of origin;
(3) what steps he is taking to protect the Sheffield cutlery industry when the country of origin is not clearly marked on imported cutlery.
§ Mr. HowardThe European Court of Justice has already made it clear that a requirement for imported goods, including cutlery, to be origin-marked irrespective of the circumstances, is incompatible with the EEC treaty.
