HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c420W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Paymaster General if there is to be any link between a claimant officer's pay or bonus or incentive scheme and the reduction in the number of claimants on the unemployment register attributable to the work of that officer.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Claimant advisers are paid in accordance with standard Civil Service rates of pay and do not receive any form of performance bonus or incentive.

I should also refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, East (Mr. Prescott), on 4 November 1986 at column 805, in which I said that no targets had been set for claimant advisers to reduce the number of people on the unemployment register.
