HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c490W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he has any plans to improve the protection of amphibians and reptiles, especially the common lizard, slow worm, grass snake and adder; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

No. The common, or viviparous, lizard is already listed in the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 as an animal which is protected at all times; the slow worm, grass snake and adder are not native Northern Ireland species and do not naturally occur there.
