§ Ms. Richardsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he is taking to tackle the problem of under-reporting of the crimes of rape and sexual assault.
§ Mr. Giles ShawChanges in police practice in recent years, as regards recording of reported offences of rape and interviewing of victims, have had some success in encouraging victims to come forward and in arranging sympathetic treatment for them. We are currently considering with the police the recommendations of the Women's National Commission in its report on violence against women to see what scope there may be for further action.
