§ Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the arrangements designed to prevent a conflict of interest between Mr. Peter Levene's duties as Chief of Defence Procurement and those he previously exercised in his former position as chairman of United Scientific Holdings Ltd.
§ Mr. YoungerI have decided that the arrangements instituted in respect of Mr. Peter Levene's appointment as Chief of Defence Procurement to prevent a conflict of interest need not be continued beyond the 12-month period originally envisaged and which expired on 18 March 1986. I have accordingly instructed that Mr. Levene should have unrestricted access to all papers falling within the area of his formal responsibilities as Chief of Defence Procurement including any relating to business transacted with those companies with which he was formerly associated.
