HC Deb 23 April 1986 vol 96 cc145-6W
Mr. Greg Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Transport why two stretches of lane closures have been allowed to take place concurrently at or near junction 15 and 16 of the M1 motorway.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The two sets of lane closures were part of a major maintenance contract involving resurfacing and installation of lighting. One contractor was responsible for these works which were carried out simultaneously to save time and reduce delays for the public. The road closures and associated contraflow conformed to the Department's required standards for minimum spacing between roadworks.
