2. Mr. Corbyn

Mr. Kenneth Baker

I am next due to meet the associations at the Consultative Council on Local Government Finance on 7 July.

7. Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many submissions he had received by 18 April in response to the Green Paper, "Paying for Local Government".

Mr. Kenneth Baker

Over 400.

17. Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will extend the consultation period in respect of the Green Paper, "Paying for Local Government".

Mr. Waldegrave

Following representations from the local authority associations, I announced on 19 March that the consultation period would be extended to 31 October. I see no justification for any further extension.

41. Mr. Stern

Mr. Waldegrave

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer which my right hon. Friend gave today to the hon. Member for Sheffield, Central (Mr. Caborn).
