asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate his Department has made of the proportion of the individuals employed on rigs in the British sector of the North sea who pay United Kingdom income tax.

Mr. Moore

It is not possible to make a firm estimate but information available suggests that the overwhelming majority of employees in the United Kingdom sector of the North sea pay United Kingdom income tax.

Mr. Frank Field

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will calculate the total amount of income tax reductions in money terms since 1979; and if he will present the distribution of income tax reductions in money terms since 1979; and if he will present the distribution of this total among the (a) top 1 per cent. of income earnings, (b) top 2 to 5 per cent. of income earnings, (c) top 6 to 10 per cent. of income earnings, (d) top 11 to 20 per cent. of income earnings, (e) top 21 to 30 per cent. of income earnings, (f) top 31 to 40 per cent. of income earnings, (g) top 41 to 50 per cent. of income earnings and (h) bottom 50 per cent.
