§ Mr. LangOn 9 January 1986, the latest date for which figures are available, the proportion of claimants who have been unemployed for over six months in the United Kingdom was 57 per cent. It is difficult to make a comparison with April 1979 (no figures are available for May) because of changes in the way figures are collected. However, the proportion of registrants who had been unemployed for over six months was 47 per cent.
