§ Mr. Maxtonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many letters or cards he has received concerning cuts in the Greater Glasgow health board's services; and if he will provide extra money to the board.
§ Mr. John MacKayOver 7,000 representations have been received, nearly all of which are on preprinted postcards which were, I understand, provided by the health board's trade union committee.
There have been no cuts in Greater Glasgow's financial allocation. Indeed, Greater Glasgow is now the best-funded health board in Scotland, both per head of population and in terms of demand for health care. Any extra funding could only be provided at the expense of other less well-funded boards; it is therefore for the board to provide its services within its existing allocation.
