§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is satisfied with the discharge of his responsibilities in relation to the promotion of British food exports to Spain by the agricultural attaché at the office of the United Kingdom permanent representative to the European Community during the negotiations on Spanish accession.
§ Mr. RentonThroughout the negotiations it was an important objective of the Government to secure the best possible access for British exporters of both industrial and agricultural goods to the Spanish and Portuguese markets. As my right hon. and learned Friend told the House during the Second Reading of the Spanish and Portuguese Accession Bill[Lords] on 4 December at column 316, the terms negotiated by the Government, to which the office of the United Kingdom permanent representative to the European Community made a valuable contribution, are very satisfactory.
