asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many science and engineering places have been available at undergraduate and postgraduate level at universities and polytechnics in each of the last seven academic years; and how many applications have been submitted to the Universities Central Council on Admissions for undergraduate courses each year during the same period.

The number of places available is not collected. Numbers of applicants through the Universities Central Council on Admissions and numbers of first year students are shown in the following table.

Yes. My right hon. Friend consulted the Professional Association of Teachers and other bodies before making amendment regulations in December 1985 and will do so in respect of any future regulations relating to teachers' superannuation.
