HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 c73W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate for the decade following 1988 the likely number of contributors opting out of the state earnings related pensions scheme for membership of (a) an occupational scheme or (b) a personal pension.

Mr. Newton

The Government's pension reforms are intended to result in a major expansion of the coverage of occupational and personal pension schemes. However, as there are no precedents for the new pension options, it is not possible to make reliable estimates of likely increases in the number of people contracting out from the State earnings-related pension scheme for the decade following 1988.
