Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many councillors appointed to the residuary bodies are Conservative councillors.

Mr. Tracey

One: Councillor Bowness of the London Residuary Body. Mr. Patnick of the South Yorkshire Residuary Body was formerly a Conservative member of the South Yorkshire county council.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his reply of 17 April to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West, if any women were considered for membership of the residuary bodies following abolition of the Greater London council and the metropolitan county councils; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

Ten women were among 220 people considered for appointments to residuary bodies. It would not be appropriate to name individuals, or to discuss why particular individuals were or were not appointed.
