HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 cc1-2W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Prime Minister whether she will send a message conveying Her Majesty's Government's regret to Colonel Gaddafi for the killing of a member of his family by United States bombers launched from British soil; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

In my speech in the House on Wednesday 16 April, at column875, I expressed my great sorrow at the civilian casualties in Libya. I also expressed my sorrow for the victims of terrorist acts performed at the Libyan Government's behest over many years.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Prime Minister if she will call for a report from the British consul in the British interests section of the Italian embassy in Tripoli, giving particulars of buildings destroyed as a result of the American bombing attack on Tripoli; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I shall certainly wish to see an assessment of the damage to buildings in Tripoli. Her Majesty's consul is at present fully occupied in giving what assistace he can to the British community in Libya.
