asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers and immigration officers, and of what rank, were involved in the operation at Willesden section house on the night of 16/17 April 1986; how many people, and of what nationalities, were (a) interviewed and (b) detained in the operation; for how long and where; what was the immigration status of the 10 people who were arrested and not charged; for how long they were under arrest; and how many people were charged with theft as a result of the police investigations.

One chief immigration officer, two immigration officers, one police sergeant and two police constables visited Willesden section house at 0600 hours on 17 April 1986 acting on information that persons believed to be in breach of the immigration laws were employed there. Four persons were interviewed when they arrived for work at times between 0630 and 0830 hours.

One Ghanaian was charged with overstaying. Two Ghanaians were found to be illegal entrants. The periods they spent in police custody at Kilburn police station before being charged or otherwise dealt with under the Immigration Act 1971 were nine-and-a-half, seven-and-a-quarter and nine-and-a-quarter hours respectively.

One Zambian was released without charge after inquiries at his home address. He was in police custody for six-and-three-quarter hours. Another Zambian at the same address, who was also a subject of the enquiry, was charged with working in breach of a prohibition on employment. She was in police custody for eight hours prior to being charged. No one was charged with theft.
