HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 c36W
Mr. Soames

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will order the heating to be turned off immediately in the Palace of Westminster.

Mr. Biffen

The parliamentary works officer is required to maintain the temperature in the Palace of Westminster as near to 66F as is possible. This has to be related to the outside temperature. Outside temperature readings over the past week have been well below 60F and in some cases below 50ºF. These temperature readings do not justify the heating being turned off. The situation is, however, kept under review on a daily basis.
