HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 c88W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what instructions have been given to the Royal Navy about the apprehension of English fishing vessels alleged to be in contravention of the Inshore Fishing (Prohibition of Carriage of Monofilament Gill Nets) (Scotland) Order 1986.

Mr. Stanley

Under present arrangements vessels operated by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland carry out fishery protection duties in waters to which the Inshore Fisheries (Scotland) Act 1984 applies. The Royal Navy is not currently involved in this. Were the Royal Navy to carry out patrols in these waters in future, instructions on fisheries regulations would be issued by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland.
