in the Metropolitan police force, the annual cost of keeping the dogs and the number of dog handlers employed.

The Metropolitan police have authority for a total of 332 dogs and handlers but in practice there is some variation from this figure in the number of dogs employed on operational duties or in training at any one time. As at 14 April 1986 there were 326 dogs in service costing an estimated £255,000 per annum. The breeds and the purposes for which they are used are as follows:

My right hon. Friend undertook to build on the powers given in the Drug Trafficking Offences Bill, once enacted, by negotiating mutual enforcement agreements with other countries. He also stressed the Government's support for a new United Nations convention on drug trafficking which will call for national measures in all signatory countries to facilitate the seizing of drug traffickers' assets.
