HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 cc53-4W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many holders of heavy goods vehicle and public service vehicle licences have, within the past year, had their licences terminated as a result of being found medically unfit; and how many of those licence terminations have been attributable to higher medical standards.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Out of nearly one million holders of these licences, about 2,000 have had them revoked or renewal refused by the independent traffic commissioners on medical grounds in the past year. The medical standards applied to existing licence-holders have not risen, though they have been more effectively applied in recent years.
