Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many personnel, other than registered dock workers, have been released on redundancy terms from the Port of London Authority since 28 October 1985 up to the present date; and what is the total money paid by Her Majesty's Government towards the cost of those redundancies.

Mr. Ridley

The number of personnel other than registered dock workers employed by the Port of London Authority who have taken voluntary severance since 28 October 1985 is 250; the Government have contributed £10 million towards the cost of these severances.

The number of personnel other than registered dock workers employed by the Mersey Docks and Habour company who have taken voluntary serverance since 28 October 1985 is 144; the Government have contributed £4.1 million towards the cost of those severances.
