HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 cc45-6W
15. Mr. Dormand

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will state the number of cyclists killed and seriously injured, respectively, in road accidents in 1984 and 1985 to the latest date; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

In 1984, 345 cyclists were killed and 6,250 seriously injured. Provisional figures for 1985 indicate that 295 cyclists were killed and 5,439 seriously injured. Reducing cycle casualties remains a priority for all concerned with road safety, both centrally and locally. Cyclists themselves can do more.
