§ 30. Mr. Duffyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is satisfied with current progress on the easing of Third world debt in the light of the Baker-Darman plan; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Ian StewartThe Baker plan has been endorsed by all parties in the debt arena as an important development in the strategy to manage the international debt problem. Last week's IMF/IBRD interim/development committee meetings in Washington reaffirmed their support for the Baker plan and welcomed the progress in implementing these proposals and in particular the design of growth oriented adjustment programmes in a number of countries. I have arranged to have copies of the communiqués of these two meetings deposited in the Library.
