HC Deb 15 April 1986 vol 95 c328W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the emergency procedures to be followed in the event of an accident involving a train or road vehicle carrying nuclear waste.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

National regulations require anyone transporting radioactive materials, including nuclear waste, to make appropriate arrangements to give specialist assistance to the civil emergency services in the event of any accident.

The police can also obtain emergency advice through the national arrangements for incidents involving radioactivity (NAIR) scheme which is co-ordinated by the National Radiological Protection Board.
