HL Deb 15 April 1986 vol 473 c658WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have any control over the choice of theatres of war in which British-made weapons may be deployed by the United States of America, and in particular whether they approve of blow-pipe ground-to-air missiles being supplied to rebels against the Government of Nicaragua.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

We have at no time authorised the supply of British-made weapons to the contras, nor are we aware of any such supply to them. In view of our commitment to Contadora, we place severe restrictions on our arms exports to Central America. We do not normally insist on no transfer clauses for sales to the US.
