§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the cost of, and how many students are involved in, his sponsorship scheme to assist those wishing to study (a) engineering and (b) science.
§ Mr. Norman LamontThe current number of external students on the Ministry of Defence sponsorship scheme studying engineering is around 250, at a cost of approximately £500,000. The figures for science students are 108 and £200,000 respectively. It is planned to expand the scheme for the 1986 intake.
