§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Paymaster General if he will make a statement on the Government's policy on the draft recommendation of the Commission of the European Communities on the employment of disabled people in the European Community.
§ Mr. LangThe Government welcome the Commission's initiative in this area and believe a recommendation is an appropriate instrument. It supports the idea of a code of practice—an important feature of the Commission's proposals. Many of the proposed measures mirror current United Kingdom provision and practice, and the Government are hopeful that within the next few months agreement on the precise terms of the instrument can be reached between the EC member states.
