HC Deb 10 April 1986 vol 95 c186W
Mr. Tim Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pharmaceutical dispensing errors have occurred since the introduction of the limited list of products on the list arising from confusion over the names of drugs.

Mr. Hayhoe

I am not aware of any such errors.

Mr. Tim Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in what circumstances the regulations governing the limited list of drugs permit general practitioners to use a brand name on a prescription form; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hayhoe

Drugs are available on the National Health Service by their brand names if those names are not shown in schedules 3A and 3B to the National Health Service (General Medical and Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 1974 (as amended) which have been compiled on the basis of expert medical and pharmaceutical advice.
