HC Deb 10 April 1986 vol 95 c159W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Attorney-General if he will publish an analysis of, and an explanation for, the increase in the number of persons employed by the Land Registry between 1979 and 1985.

The Attorney-General

The number of staff employed by the Land Registry between 31 March 1979 and 31 March 1985 increased by 1,607 (29 per cent.). This increase has been necessary to deal with a 52 per cent. increase in applications and transactions during that period. This increase arose primarily owing to the continuing growth in owner-occupation, increased property market activity and the further extension of compulsory registration of title in England and Wales.
