HC Deb 08 April 1986 vol 95 cc8-9W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review entry arrangements for all Libyan nationals.

Mr. Waddington

We have no present proposals for change in the arrangements, but the operation of the controls on Libyan nationals announced by my right hon. and learned Friend the then Home Secretary on 1 May 1984 at columns197–98 is already kept under constant review.

Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what basis Libyan nationals under training at Heathrow and at the Oxford Air Training School were allowed entry clearance; and how long their visas are for.

Mr. Waddington

They will have been admitted as students in accordance with the immigration rules and having regard to the immigration restrictions on Libyan nationals announced by my right hon. and learned Friend the then Home Secretary on 1 May 1984 at columns197–98. In accordance with that statement, Libyan students are not normally given permission to stay for more than one term at a time.
