§ Mr. WhitneyThe numbers of deaths for which septicaemia was coded as the underlying cause of death are given in the following table. However, septicaemia may also be mentioned on a death certificate as a complication of some other underlying cause; exact statistics of these cases are not available but they may be as many as ten times the numbers for which septicaemia was coded as the underlying cause.
