§ Mr. Wareingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on recent reports on the likely trends of unemployment in the United Kingdom during 1986 contained in documents issued by the International Monetary Fund and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
§ Mr. MacGregor[pursuant to his reply, 28 October 1985]: Neither the OECD nor the IMF expect UK unemployment levels in 1986 to change significantly from those in 1985. According to well-established convention the Government do not publish their own forecasts of unemployment.
