§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he is satisfied with the operation of the regulations regarding the construction of tachographs on coaches, and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will introduce legislation requiring tachographs on coaches to be crash-proof and fireproof, and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerTachographs and recording charts must comply with the requirements of EEC regulation 1463/70. I am satisfied that this provides for appropriate standards of construction including some protection against fire and accidental damage. It is extremely rare for a tachograph chart to be destroyed in a crash or by fire. I do not believe more onerous requirements would be justified at present.
