HC Deb 28 October 1985 vol 84 c380W
Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what efforts are being made by his Department to notify people presently entitled to severe disablement allowance and new claimants of their full entitlements and of possible extra benefits available because of needs arising from their disabilities.

Mr. Newton

We are currently carrying out a national advertising campaign directed at encouraging claims from people who are phased in to the benefit at the end of November. This reinforces a similar campaign last year aimed at people included at the start of the benefit. The explanatory leaflet accompanying the claim form includes information about the other benefits available to handicapped people. Details of some of these benefits are also given in our handbook "Non-contributory Benefits for disabled people", a new edition of which is in preparation.
