HC Deb 28 October 1985 vol 84 cc351-2W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total number and value of offers of regional assistance made to companies in the Strathclyde travel-to-work areas and in Strathclyde as a whole for the last month for which statistics are available.

Mr. Allan Stewart

In September 1985, there were two offers of regional selective assistance under section 7 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 with a combined value of £1 million and 103 offers of new style regional development grant with a total value of £2.54 million made to companies in Strathclyde. Information of the type requested for old style regional development grant is not available.

It is not possible to give details of offers of regional selective assistance for Strathclyde travel-to-work areas as to do so would disclose information on individual companies. The following table shows offers of new style regional development grant by travel-to-work areas within Strathclyde for September 1985.

Travel-to-work area Number of offers Value of offers (£ million)

Total 103 *2.54

*Figures for individual travel-to-work areas may not add to total shown because of rounding.
