Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what sentences have been imposed by the courts following cases which have been held in connection with alleged offences committed during the Brixton riots.

Mr. Mellor

Statistics of such court proceedings are being compiled and will be made available in due course.

Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to how many arrests have been made in connection with the alleged rapes during the Brixton riots.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that no arrests have been made to date, but that inquiries are continuing.
