HC Deb 28 October 1985 vol 84 c352W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what capital expenditure is currently being committed for prison building in Scotland; what detailed plans he has for the future of the Scottish prison system; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

It is estimated that £11.7 million will be spent on capital projects within the Scottish prison service during the current financial year.

A review of the use of inmate accommodation within the Scottish penal system which was nearing completion will now have to be looked at further in the light of recent increases in the penal population.
