§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will assess the impact of changes in the price of platinum upon the economics of catalytic converters designed for the removal of hydrocarbons and NOx from vehicle exhausts.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI understand that the cost of the platinum group metals that would be used in a three-way catalyst on a typical European mid-sized car is around £25 at current prices. Thus a doubling in the price of these metals would add about £25 to the cost of each catalyst.
