Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much money has been paid under section 11 of the Local Government Act 1966 to local authorities in (a) England, (b) Wales and (c) Scotland, respectively, in the most recent year for which information is available.

Mr. Waddington

The total grant paid to local authorities in respect of the financial year 1983–84 is as follows:

  1. (a) England: £73,050,470
  2. (b) Wales: £57,658 (In 1983–84 all applications for grant under section 11 from Welsh local authorities were approved) Section 11 does not apply to Scotland.

Certain payments are provisional subject to audit and final acceptance by the Home Office and the final figures may therefore be slightly different.
