§ Mr. Deakins
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the trend in the size of the income tax base in real terms in the past decade, after taking account of the costs of all reliefs against income tax.

§ Mr. Moore
The estimates below are of the movement (at constant prices)of the total taxable income of individuals less deductions and personal allowances. Figures for 1983–84 and 1984–85 are provisional.
