Sumberg15. Mr. asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the number of detector vans used by the Post Office to deter the evasion of the television licence fee.
Mr. GilesWe have now received a report from independent consultants appointed to examine the television licence collection and enforcement procedures employed by the Post Office. We shall be considering the number of detector vans in use, and their cost-effectiveness, in the light of the consultants' recommendations and of the comments of the Public Accounts Committee.
