§ Mr. MellorInformation relating to crime and criminal proceedings is published annually in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales". Table 2.1 in the latest volume, Cmnd. 9621, gives the percentage annual increase in the number of violent and other offences recorded in the period 1974 to 1984. The figures show that in the last five years violent crime has continued to increase, though the increase has been less marked than in the preceding five years.
