§ 12. Mr. Ray Powellasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give details of the current unemployment in Ogmore, Mid-Glamorgan and Wales; and what were the percentage increases since May 1979 and since October 1984.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsOn 12 September 1985 the number of unemployed claimants were 4,951, 36,975 and 187,563 respectively. Comparable figures for May 1979 in respect of the Ogmore constituency and Mid-Glamorgan are not available because of the move to claimant based figures. The estimated increase in percentage terms for Wales is 143 per cent. Since October 1984 there have been increases of 8 per cent., 5.2 per cent. and 4.8 per cent. respectively.
