Which health authorities in England have had their district management structures approved by the DHSS in 1985;
Which health authorities have included in their post-Griffiths structure a Chief or District Nursing Officer at district level who is managerially responsible for the nursing services;
Which health authorities will have a Chief or District Nursing Officer with executive responsibility for nursing and responsibility for giving professional nursing advice to the district health authority; and
Whether they agree with the statement made by the North East Thames Regional Health Authority that "there is no justification for a role as professional leader" in nursing in City and Hackney Health Authority.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Baroness Trumpington)District management structures are approved by the relevant regional health authority. Some 125 districts have had their structure approved in this way. We have made it clear that all health authorities must have a senior nurse accountable for464WA professional matters and with direct access to the authority. The title of the post will vary between authorities dependent on the post-holder's other responsibilities. On matters of day-to-day management the nursing officers will be accountable to the general manager.
