§ Mr. NewtonBetween 11 July and 10 October 1985 119,546 people ceased to claim unemployment benefit, supplementary benefit or national insurance credits at unemployment benefit offices in the west midlands. It is not known how many of these may have subsequently claimed supplementary benefit for reasons other than unemployment, for example sickness or retirement, during this period.
